Will All Bloggers Hate Me?

I think I hate blog hops.

It's now getting so bad that when I hook up with my favorite blogs they're all about the hops. It's like whoring yourself for followers without giving them anything to follow you about except to just... follow you. No content. No stories. Just hey, I'm on this hop thing, follow me and I'll follow you but won't really read your stories!

Do you hate me for saying this?

When I read a blog I want true stories. I want to laugh at you with you about your idiocy bad luck and unfortunate events. I want to share struggles and know I'm not alone with having people shit all over me. Yeah, it makes me feel good to hear your bad luck because... it helps us connect as strangers and build some kind of useless network of hope for change. You know, it's all about making my the world a better place!

But when your posts are only about the hop thing I just want to hop away. There's no content. Unless it does have SOME stuff (like I looooove the Magpie stories, man the people that write there are some awesome writers!) and even the truth or lie game, it's cool...

I do like hops in beer though. I like beer. I like beer from other countries. I like other countries. I like to travel. I like to live in my fantasy world. Will you come and join me in my fantasy world? There's plenty of room and it's always sunny (like in Philadelphia).

  1. We should really have a beer, when your traveling takes you to the place i live.

Except that would be the scariest thing in the whole world, like way scarier that putting my (sex)life and bowel moment pattern on the effing internet for the whole world to read.

I am really not a fan of hopping either, except when it involves bunnies....

  2. You know, I think if that is all you do, then we aren't hearing all about you. Now, before you get pissed at me, I did do a link up today, but only because, well, I needed to. And it definitely wasn't on my hidden blog, so its now sexual in nature. damn. Oh well, I do love to tell whats my ups and down, but damn I've had a boring life this last week. I need some excitement.

  3. I don't hate you, I agree with you.

Reading other people's blogs is like the best kind of reality show, where you get to pick your own cast to follow.

I'd want people to follow me because they dug something I wrote... or that they were so horrified, they want to see what's next.

Wuppy: wouldn't it be freaky if I showed up in your Netherlands? Dressed up as a crochet bunny hopping everywhere?

  5. I'm right there with you. It gets really annoying when my reader fills up with bloghop after bloghop after bloghop and no actual content. makes me want to unsubscribe from all of them.

there's got to be a better way to find other blogs to read, and get my blog out there so other people will read my blog.

  6. Totally agree! I have come across some truly awful blogs with nothing to offer but the occasional cut and pasted forwarded email they thought was kind of funny. There is a reason I delete all forwarded emails.

  7. I totally agree! I haven't had a lot of time to read blogs these days, so first I skip 90% of the "monday blahs" and "tuesday tootles" and "Wednesday wackies" or whateverthefuck people are writing. There's 5 for every day with some people!
I go straight to the ones with some MEAT! Of course, the last week has been so bad I've barely read anyone and I had to get my posts done in advance. sigh.

  9. True enough, you have a point here -- sometimes people do their flashback fridays or wordless wednesdays or god help us post it note tuesdays - and I want to puke.

People should read my blog because it is awesome, and follow me because I am awesome. Period!

    Signed,
    Mr Awesome.

  10. Yep, I am with you. I only do the hops when I WANT TO. I want funny, outrageous, heart-wrenching. I want something that makes me feel something and a coupon for Wheaties just ain't doin' it for me!

  11. I stopped doing them. I want readers who actually read my stuff and want to converse with me.

  12. Yeah, I know you're laughing at me. And it wasn't idiocy. It really WAS a series of unfortunate events!

P.S. I did not finish The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo this weekend. Truth be told, I didn't even get 30 pages in. A friend told me I just needed to get past the first 100 pgs then I'd be good, but I just couldn't do it.

  13. Nothing beats a great story, that´s what draws you to read a blog in the first place...and it is much quicker than reading a book. Like instant pleasure:-)

  14. Yep. It ranks up there with people who only posts pictures of their kids and giveaway blogs.
